GlowCamp should be easy to use for everyone – with large text, with a screen reader, or without much tech experience. Here is an honest overview of what already works well and what we are still working on.
What already works well
- Screen readers (VoiceOver and TalkBack): Almost all buttons are labelled and say what they do. The round buttons on the map stay labelled even after their small text tags are hidden after the first days.
- No swiping or dragging needed: There is also a delete button instead of swiping. Sorting lists and moving photos also works via accessibility actions. The slideshow has buttons for next, previous and pause.
- Less motion: If “Reduce Motion” is turned on in your phone settings, GlowCamp shows numbers and pictures without animation. Screen readers always get the final values right away.
- Easy to read: There is a light and a dark design with strong contrast. The text follows the text size set on your phone.
- Large touch targets: Buttons are big enough to hit reliably, even on the road.
- Simple mode: In the profile you can turn on a simple mode that shows fewer options at once.
What we are still working on
- Very large text: We have not yet checked every screen at the largest text size. The bar at the bottom (map, trips, profile) intentionally keeps a fixed size.
- The map: The map with the fog is mainly made for looking at. Places and markers are labelled, but there is no full text description of the map yet.
- Voice Control: For some buttons the label used by Voice Control still differs from the visible text. We are fixing this.
- Without colours: We have not yet fully checked whether everything can be told apart without colour differences.
- Translations: Texts in languages other than German are translated with AI and may contain mistakes.
